Drenched in the emotions of blues, folk and country music, roots singer/songwriter Kerri Powers uses her dramatically dark and beautiful voice to mine the depths of romantic heartbreak and broken dreams in the edgy narratives of her songs. A native of rural Massachusetts, Powers sings the blues with such authentic, down-home grit that you might well think she’s from Mississippi.

Besides being a consummate chronicler of disappointment and despair, she can also morph into an impishly naughty rebel with a cause, a Mark Twain-like trickster whose wry words and phrasing can also celebrate joy and hope. Says John Apice, of No Depression, “I don’t know where this young lady came from, but it’s got to be a secret place. This is not the kind of singing and performing that can be easily taught. It has to be in your spirit, in your blood and the fact that she is from the Northeast is going to confound the artists down South, in the Delta, in Memphis, Clarksdale, Austin, and Nashville.” Kerri will perform plenty of old favorites plus some great new songs from her upcoming album.

Taj Mahal doesn’t wait for permission. If a sound intrigues him, he sets out to make it. If origins mystify him, he moves to trace them. If rules get in his way, he unapologetically breaks them. To Taj, convention means nothing, but traditions are holy. He has pushed music and culture forward, all while looking lovingly back.
_
“I just want to be able to make the music that I’m hearing come to me — and that’s what I did,” Taj says. The 76-year-old is home in Berkeley, reflecting on six decades of music making. “When I say, ‘I did,’ I’m not coming from the ego. The music comes from somewhere. You’re just the conduit it comes through. You’re there to receive the gift.”
_
Taj is a towering musical figure — a legend who transcended the blues not by leaving them behind, but by revealing their magnificent scope to the world. “The blues is bigger than most people think,” he says. “You could hear Mozart play the blues. It might be more like a lament. It might be more melancholy. But I’m going to tell you: the blues is in there.”
_
If anyone knows where to find the blues, it’s Taj. A brilliant artist with a musicologist’s mind, he has pursued and elevated the roots of beloved sounds with boundless devotion and skill. Then, as he traced origins to the American South, the Caribbean, Africa, and elsewhere, he created entirely new sounds, over and over again. As a result, he’s not only a god to rock-and-roll icons such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones, but also a hero to ambitious artists toiling in obscurity who are determined to combine sounds that have heretofore been ostracized from one another. No one is as simultaneously traditional and avant-garde.

WHAT: Bees Deluxe Debut Show in Rhode Island
WHERE: Cady’s Tavern, 2168 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, RI 02814
WHEN: Saturday September 24, 2022
COST: No Cover!
Bees Deluxe, the British/American blues band from Boston, bring their unique take on Acid Blues to Cady’s Tavern
One of New England’s most distinctive bands, Bees Deluxe delivers anything-but-basic blues. Hell-bent on a mission to drag the electric-analog blues of Chicago in the 60’s, the Blue Note catalog and the funk of New Orleans into the 21st century, the band’s repertoire includes addictive originals and innovative interpretations of tunes by artists including: Etta James, Joe Zawinul, J.B. Lenoir, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix and the Three Kings. Their musicality and infectious enthusiasm has won them fans and awed audiences from Maine to the Mississippi and Miami.
“Even though we’ve toured up and down the east coast,” said the band’s frontman, Conrad Warre. “this is first time we’ve stopped to play in Rhode Island, we’re thrilled to get the chance to our friends and fans in the area at last!.”
Bees Deluxe colors outside the lines of the standard blues repertoire re-arranging and reconstructing the classics in new and original forms stretching out when the audience insists and gearing up for the dance-floor as much as for the discerning listener.
Blues Blast Magazine said of Bees Deluxe: “…what might happen if Freddie King took a lot of acid then wrote a song with Pat Metheny and asked a strung-out Stevie Ray Vaughan to take a solo.”
In addition to their tour dates, Bees Deluxe will be playing a live ‘on-the-air’ concert via WUML’s 91.5 FM radio show “Blues Deluxe” on Saturday October the 22nd from 3:00 to 6:00 pm EST available worldwide via the internet at wuml.org. And have released ticket information for their show at Boston City Winery’s Haymarket Lounge on Saturday November the 5th available here.

Comedy Diva, Stephanie Peters, grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, idolizing local funnyman Lenny Clarke and his buddies Jay Leno, Denis Leary and Steven Wright, who honed their standup chops at the now-famous Ding Ho. Stephanie skyrocketed from playing tiny clubs in Boston’s suburbs to strutting her own brand of bawdiness in Denis Leary’s “Comics Come Home” benefit.

Stephanie’s “larger than life” stage presence and out of the ordinary looks” have also landed her many print ads and TV commercials, other television appearances include Bob Zany’s Comedy Spotlight, Access Hollywood with Pauly Shore, the Newport Comedy Festival on Fox, Who’s Hot on 56 and Chronicle’s Best of Boston. She’s also no stranger to newspaper readers. Being regularly featured in the Boston Herald and profiled in the Boston Globe as “one of this town’s must-see comedians.”

BENISE 20th ANNIVERSARY TOUR – A magical event celebrating the ‘Best of’ Benise through 20 years fiery Spanish guitar and dance!
Benise shattered the mold of Spanish guitar by combining music and dance. It’s one hot night as Benise celebrates 20 years of taking audiences on a musical journey through Spanish Flamenco, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Samba, Parisian Waltz, exotic drumming, and more! Performing fan favorites from the last 20 years and debuting new songs from his 5th PBS special ‘Strings of Hope.’
“The Prince of Spanish Guitar” – Dancing With The Stars
“Bennissimo!” – Chicago News
“Extreme Flamenco Fusion” – Screen India
The 20th Anniversary tour establishes Benise’s Emmy Award winning show as one of the longest running global Latin-themed theatrical productions and solidifies Benise as America’s foremost native-born ambassador of Spanish guitar.
For Benise, music has always been a journey. From his humble beginnings as a street performer, to being featured on the #1 rated show in the USA – Dancing With The Stars, and performing around the world. “I wanted to push the boundaries of Nuevo Flamenco/Spanish guitar while combining the elements of dance and theater. This show is a celebration of all the shows we’ve done over the last 20 years,”
The Emmy Award-winning composer along with an international cast of musicians and dancers will entertain audiences with a two-hour show that “is an escape from all of their problems,” Benise says. “Much like the recent PBS special Strings of Hope, with this show I want to take the audience on an escape…to a beautiful Spanish courtyard filled with Flamenco dancers, stunning costumes, and fiery Spanish guitars. Beyond the new material, BENISE says “the live show will incorporate some fan favorites from my street performing days and rock classics like Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir and AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.”
