The Newport Music Festival has played a significant cultural role in Rhode Island since its launch in 1969, celebrating classical music in intimate concert settings. In the years since, the festival has produced more than 2,000 concerts in a host of renowned Newport Mansions, and in various venues throughout Newport. The festival stages have hosted more than 1,000 artists, including 130 American debuts of artists who have gone on to make history. The last decade has brought a broadening of the festival’s musical landscape. From Bach to Bernstein to world premieres by established and emerging composers, as well as rare discoveries of forgotten minor masterpieces, the festival offers something for everyone, even those just looking for a magical experience at the edge of the world. We are so excited to welcome the community back for our the 24th season of our much-loved Concert Under the Elms!

This year’s series will feature some new elements, including required pre-registration, a lineup of ALL NEW bands, and the option to pre-order picnic boxes from Pranzi or beverages from Bottles Fine Wine for pick-up on site upon your arrival.

But other traditions remain unchanged. Concerts will still begin at 6:30pm, guests will still be welcome to bring their own chairs and coolers, and the evening will still be filled with great music and great friends like you!

With protocols rapidly changing as the pandemic wanes, we will frequently be updating our safety procedures for Concerts Under the Elms to ensure the comfort and safety of guests, staff, and performers. The Summer Concert Series Returns to the Events Center at Mulligan’s Island this year. After a year off due to Covid-19, Mulligan’s Island is bringing great live music back to our outdoor sound stage.

This year’s Friday Night Live concert series is titled “A Tribute to Summer”. Starting July 2nd, you will be entertained by nine of the nation’s best tribute bands. The Preservation Society of Newport County’s new “Stroll the Gardens and Grounds” experience gives visitors the opportunity to picnic on the historic landscapes of The Breakers, The Elms and Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth.

“Many people have been asking us to reopen Green Animals because they are looking for outdoor experiences during this pandemic period,” said CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe. “We decided to take it further, and for the first time we’re inviting guests to bring food, beverages and a blanket and enjoy a picnic on the lawns and gardens at these three properties. With so many people ‘staycationing’ this summer, this is a great way for families to escape to a beautiful place for a day without going far from home.”

This new specialty ticket includes outdoor-only access to all three properties, and costs $18 for adults and $8 for youth, ages 6-17. The three properties can be visited on different days. The grounds will be open during the following times: The Elms, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with last admission at 4 p.m.; The Breakers, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., with last admission at 5 p.m.; and Green Animals, 10 a.m.-sunset, with last admission at 7 p.m.

This summer at Coggeshall Farm Museum in Bristol, RI, experience your favorite fairy tale characters as you’ve never seen them before. Guests will experience an enchanted farm and meet characters from several beloved fairytales, all now living beside each other at Fairy Tale Farm. Each step out of their home for the first time in a while; from “real-boy” Pinocchio who is adulting for the first time, to a recently awakened beautiful princess-turned-Instagram celebrity, to Little Red’s once-devoured grandmother, to Goldilocks (who is newly engaged to Baby Bear), and a self-aware third little pig named Vincent. Map in hand, the guests will have the freedom to explore every inch of the Farm as the sun goes down. Hilarity is bound to ensue as characters they thought they’ve known since childhood finally decide to get real.
Fairy Tale Farm at Coggeshall Farm Museum will also feature music by Briana White, an acoustic/pop musician from Providence, RI. Using her guitar as both a string and percussion instrument, with the help of her loop pedal, she creates unique harmonies and rhythms that are sure to entertain.

RiverFire is back along the Saugatucket River off of Main Street in Wakefield! Local shops & restaurants and the adjacent elementary school playground are open – come outside and stroll with us! Join us via the South County bike path, or drive downtown and park at either of the two free municipal parking lots. RiverFire and music starts at 6 PM.
